A blessing came to our household early morning of the 6th of January five years ago. She came when we least expected to have a little baby in a household full of adult and elderly parents.
Mom and Dad were skeptical about our decision to take the responsibility of taking care of a young mother and her baby because of the back story attached to how they came to our doorstep a month before the baby's birth, but of course we will not dwell on that story, it's not pleasant and does not deserve a place in this blog. Until we brought them to the hospital, Mom was not sold to having a baby at home lest bring her up like our own. Or so we thought ...
Just a day after she was born, Mom hiked up the gear and turn the knob to grandmother mode and took care of her the moment she saw her in her hospital room. It was even an overdrive because nobody could overtake her when she was in-charge. Even Dad pitched in, their ground floor room turned into a nursery and improvised bathroom for the little angel after we brought her home.
What will we call her? Being Christians, we followed the tradition of referring to the Almanac and Calendar of Saints and her birth falls under St. Andre Bassette, patron for the healing graces. We made it female sounding so we named her Andrae Louise, in short Andel. Our little angel.
I have to say that having a baby in the house made the environment vibrant and even my parents aches and pains are forgotten as long as they are the one looking after Andel. So I guess her name really made good with her Saint's graces - heal the physical, emotional and spiritual pains.
From the time we brought her home until now she's what we call Lolo and Lola's pet -- her defense lawyers to get her way around to what she wants. Something to watch out hmmmmm...
The photos below are her first year ... her 12 months milestones.
